What’s the difference between a louvre and a plantation shutter?Louvre, plantation and colonial shutters are actually the same thing – wooden, slatted blinds that sit inside their own frame. The size of the louvre will be dictated by the window size – the bigger the window, the bigger the louvre.
-
Can I choose a paint or stain colour of my choice?Yes, absolutely! We have an extensive standard range of colours to choose from but we can custom colour match at an additional cost. UV inhibitors are used on all our products to maintain the depth of your chosen colour.
-
My window is an unusual shape, can I still have louvre shutters? We’ve installed arched, curved, round, shaped and angled windows, bay windows and huge bi-fold door expanses so nothing is beyond us. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in our gallery or on our Facebook page, contact us as we’ve not found anything yet we can’t do!
-
Are there different types of shutters?Yes, there are. Full-height shutters cover the whole window or door. Tier on Tier comprise two sets of panels that open independently of each other. Café style cover the lower half of the window for a continental look and feel. Solid shutters are wood panels that completely cover the window for privacy and security. Shaped shutters are designed to fit awkward windows or to make the most of original architecture. And finally tracked shutters slide on a track giving easy access to large windows or doors.
-
What’s a hidden tilt rod?A hidden tilt rod (to adjust the blind louvres) is concealed within the side of the panel and is a neater solution than an externally-mounted tilt rod favoured by some manufacturers. Our tilt rods are made from high-grade stainless steel to ensure they won’t rust.
-
I’m outside the Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire area, will you still be able to help me?We do install in other areas of the South of England, depending on the distance and size of the order. Send us a call back request and we’ll give you a call to find out more.
-
Are plantation shutters difficult to clean? There are lots of gadgets on the market to clean multiple louvres at the same time and we are currently testing out some of the main ones. Until the results are in, we still recommend using a clean dry or lightly damp duster.
-
Are interior shutters suitable for any room in the house? We’ll recommend the best option for your situation. For example, we’d probably recommend our Hollywood shutters for rooms prone to humidity or damp conditions like utility rooms, bathrooms, conservatories or pool houses or our Seattle for high-traffic areas like playrooms. All wood types undergo a six-month drying process to ensure it will cope with the environment or humidity at the final installation. Plantation shutters are particularly suitable to improve privacy and reduce noise while giving maximum control over light levels.
-
Do you offer a guarantee? All our interior shutters come with a 5-year warranty for total peace of mind.
-
What are your payment terms? We ask for 50% with your order, and the balance on completion. If there are any remedial works required, we complete those to your satisfaction before the final balance is due for payment. Payment can be by bank transfer, Paypal, cash or cheque.
-
Can I have my interior shutters by Christmas? It really depends on when you place your order! As our louvre and solid shutters are individually commissioned and manufactured to order, it usually takes around 7/8 weeks but peak times can take a bit longer. We will give you an indicative delivery date during the estimating process based on the latest information from the factory so you can plan accordingly.
-
Are Surrey Shutters’ products sustainable? Our shutters come from our manufacturers’ own managed plantations so trees are constantly replaced to ensure a continual supply of high-quality wood. All wood waste is recycled. All packaging is removed and recycled.
